Mountain Meadows Massacre

A number of people from the Northwest Arkansas area were killed in 1857 in what came to be known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre, in which a wagon train which originated in part near Harrison, Arkansas was ambushed by a group of Mormon settlers and local indians in Utah and it's entire adult population slaughtered. Only a group of 17 children too small to be considered good witnesses were permitted to live. They were returned to their families back east. One, William Twitty Baker, resided in Leslie Arkansas at the time of his death in this century.. Accounts of the massacre are included below for those who wish to learn more and check the known casualty list.
